Hula
this is the true essence of Hawaii, the hula dancers who interpret the spiritual connection to the aina (land)  I have the echoing remarks from my college professor ringing in my head as I do these paintings.  It was in a life drawing class that my professor told me to get out of art because he couldn't see me as an artist.  He said my drawings are terrible and as he was telling me this I was thinking what the hell am I doing in the prerequisite life drawing class anyways, drawing these old obese models.  I just couldn't see the human body as a landscape of curves and shapes.  :-)
